The two vertical supports were missing when we disassembled the vehicle, the
prior restorer must have forgotten to reinstall them. These are an integral part
of the structure and the result of them missing would have been cracking
of the upper surround over time due to excessive flexing.
The steel reinforcement in the inner wheel wells that braces the radiator
support and hood were not installed?! The prior restorer must have forgotten to
reinstall them. These are crucial for supporting the hood and radiator support.
This is the brace as it should be in place
The new bracket is installed and now the upper surround is fitted. In the
second picture you can see the bracket is what the hood hinges bolt to.
This hood could have easily been ripped off with just a little excessive force
i.e. wind gust at a car show with hood up etc.
The upper surround is fitted to the hood.
The RH headlight assembly was removed to fit the surround. Upon Disassembly it
is apparent that the assembly has been apart before and was badly damaged.
Probably in a prior wreck. The pivot components have been cobbled together in
that they are broken and glued together. This was not a product of the current
damage. A circular mark can be seen where the headlight assembly was grinding
the mount housing.
The spacer and seals a broken, cracked and will also have to be replaced.
